Vehicle Geo-Tracker™ (VGT) is an automatic vehicle locator, a device that makes use of the Global Positioning System ( GPS ) to enable a remotely location tracking, speed, course direction, and time stamp, of vehicle. These devices combine GPS technology, cellular communications, street-level mapping, and an intuitive user interface, with the ostensible goal of improving management and customer service. VGT can also monitor the conditions of the given vehicle when connected to external sensor, such as engine heat sensor, fuel sensor, etc.

For example, a company using an VGT system is able to pinpoint the longitude, latitude, ground speed, and course direction of a given vehicle. The vehicle's location can be quickly found and it could be rerouted to provide timely delivery to a nearby customer. VGT systems also enable companies to structure delivery routes more efficiently by compiling a database of vehicle information, including location of customers in relation to established delivery routes.

VGT has been developed to use Radio, GSM, or CDMA network, with the distance range comparasion as state below:

• UHF/VHF Radio (10 to 20 km).
• HF Radio (1,000 to 2,000 km).
• GSM/CDMA, using SMS or data connection (depend on operator signal coverage).

GIS Modul

The VGT also can be integrated with GIS (Geographic Information System) to locate the given vehicle. By using multiple layer maps, this modul able to use both vector and raster maps, depend on user's point of interest. This modul also provide data history logging that can be shown on feature use.
